Assessment

STEP ONE

  • We like patients to be referred to the Birmingham and Midland Memory Clinic through their GPs. Your GP understands your medical history and is responsible for your care.
  • We do accept patients who wish to approach the clinic directly.  Simply make an appointment and bring a referral letter from your GP with you.
  • You can make an appointment by telephoning  0121 450 8928.
  • Your GP can email a referral to info@thememoryclinic.co.uk
 STEP TWO
  • Your assessment by the Birmingham and Midland Memory Clinic will take place at our comfortable consulting rooms at 81 Harborne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham.
  • When you attend you will be asked about your problems in more detail.
  • It is extremely important to have this background information so that the consultant can study it and tailor your assessment accordingly.
 STEP THREE
  • When you come to the clinic, we ask that you bring a family member or close friend, as it is helpful to have an objective perspective about your memory.
  • We also request that you bring all medications with you.
  • At this appointment, you will spend approximately 90 minutes with a consultant who will discuss your concerns with you.
  • This will include formal neuropsychological testing in the form of structured questions and tasks.
STEP FOUR
  • Following this assessment, a series of investigations will usually be recommended.  These include blood tests to look for medical causes and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging  (MRI) Scan, which takes pictures of the brain.
  • Professional colleagues at the Priory Hospital, Edgbaston, will undertake all the investigations.
STEP FIVE
  • You will return to the clinic to discuss the results and findings with the consultant.
